FAQ's
When will plungers move in?
August 21st between 9 am and 1 pm.
Where will students be going for community engaged activities?
Students will travel in groups to community service sites in the Bronx and Manhattan. Participants will meet local community leaders and engage in activities such as food distribution, park clean-up, and opportunities to mentor young people. Students will also have an opportunity to explore the boroughs in large groups.
What transportation will students be using?
Students will travel to their community service sites via public transportation. Students will always be traveling in a group with experienced upperclassmen.
How many plungers will be assigned to each group?
We will have large group activities and discussion, but there will be about 8 - 10 Plungers and 3 UP Assistants (experienced upperclassmen) per team when we break out into small group activities and discussion.
Can parents hang out during Plunge Weekend?
Parents are welcome to move students in during Move-In Day, which will be Thursday, August 21st between 9am - 1pm on each campus. After Move-In, parents and families are invited to a Welcome Reception between 3pm and 5pm. Parents are expected to say their farewells then.
Please note: After Move In and Reception, with full programming from early mornings to late evenings, students will not have an opportunity to meet with parents on Urban Plunge Days.
Are parents able to attend New Student Orientation on August 24th?
There is a mandatory New Student Orientation for all first year students that will commence on Sunday, August 24th. There will be programming for families on Sunday including open houses, resource fairs, and Welcome Remarks from Fordham’s president. Urban Plunge Parents are welcome to return to campus on Sunday to attend the day’s events. For more information on Orientation, you can email either the Rose Hill campus at [email protected] or the Lincoln Center campus at [email protected] or visit the Orientation website.
What should I pack specifically for Urban Plunge? Does Urban Plunge provide students with supplies?
Urban Plunge gifts you with a tote bag, reusable water bottle, t-shirt, and a lanyard. Our student leaders will also be carrying first aid kits, ponchos, medication (Tylenol), sunscreen, and bug spray.
We encourage students to bring: comfortable clothes for hot weather that you can get dirty, closed-toed walking shoes or sneakers, a blanket or yoga mat, any personal medications, and at least $20 in cash or card for the Discover NYC portion of orientation.
